This test confirms the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis through culture and reflexively tests for multidrug resistance (MDR) if the culture is positive.
It helps diagnose tuberculosis and identify strains resistant to key drugs like isoniazid and rifampin, which is crucial for selecting effective treatment.
A sample (sputum, tissue, or other body fluid) is cultured for TB. If TB is detected, molecular or phenotypic drug susceptibility testing follows.
A positive culture confirms TB infection. MDR results indicate resistance and necessitate second-line drug therapy.
Samples should be collected under sterile conditions. Specific instructions may be given based on the sample type.
