HLA Plus Package in New Delhi Overview

What is HLA Plus (HLA A, B, DR Loci Typing Duo + CDC Crossmatch) test?

The HLA PLUS test is a pre-transplant procedure that assesses the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) compatibility between a donor and a recipient by combining HLA A, B, and DR loci typing (to determine similarities in the genes that govern immune response) and a Complement-Dependent Cytotoxic (CDC) Crossmatch (to detect the presence of pre-formed antibodies in the recipient that could attack the donor organ). The test is crucial for determining the likelihood of successful organ or tissue transplantation by identifying potential immune conflicts before the procedure.

Why consider HLA PLUS (HLA A, B, DR Loci Typing Duo + CDC Crossmatch) test?

  • Ensures Transplant Success: HLA matching is essential for successful organ transplantation by minimizing the risk of the recipient's immune system attacking and rejecting the new organ.
  • Identifies Potential for Rejection: The CDC Crossmatch test specifically looks for existing antibodies in the recipient's blood that are directed against the donor's HLA antigens. A positive result indicates a high risk of immediate rejection.
  • Complements Other Tests: The HLA PLUS test is a bundled package that combines HLA typing with crossmatching, offering a comprehensive view of donor-recipient compatibility.
  • Detects Specific Antibodies: The CDC crossmatch detects antibodies that fix complement, which are often indicative of a risk for acute rejection.

Who should get tested for HLA PLUS (HLA A, B, DR Loci Typing Duo + CDC Crossmatch) test?

  • All solid-organ transplant candidates.
  • Intended living donors during the compatibility workup.
  • Kidney transplant recipients, in particular, where crossmatch results strongly correlate with rejection and graft survival.

More Information about HLA PLUS (HLA A, B, DR Loci Typing Duo + CDC Crossmatch) test

HLA is central to transplant compatibility: matching donor and recipient HLA types and ensuring no donor‑specific HLA antibodies are present reduces rejection risk, improves graft survival, and guides immunosuppression strategies. A mismatch between a donor's and recipient's HLAs can trigger an immune response, leading to graft (transplanted organ or tissue) rejection. HLA matching aims to find a donor whose HLAs are as similar as possible to the recipient's, which increases the likelihood of graft acceptance and reduces the risk of rejection and other complications.

OTHER NAMES: HLA‑DP typing / HLA‑DPA1 and ‑DPB1 allele typing, High‑resolution HLA‑DP genotyping, HLA class II (DP locus) DNA typing.
