Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, and sometimes systemic fungal infections. It belongs to the class of drugs called azole antifungals. Ketoconazole treat Fungal infections of the skin such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, and seborrheic dermatitis, Fungal infections of the nails, Certain systemic fungal infections (though less commonly used now due to side effects).
Common side effects can be Skin irritation or rash (topical), Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain (oral), Liver toxicity (especially with oral use), Hormonal side effects (due to interference with steroid production)

Collection instructions
Require Serum, Serum extraction should not be performed by use of collection tubes with gel separators, no additives should be added. Label with date and time of collection. Label with date and time of administration of last dose of drug, preferably with drug name and dose. Doctors contact details + clinical and therapeutic history is mandatory. The sample collection has to be performed immediately prior to the next dose (trough). It should be noted that trough concentrations may show high inter-individual variation as this depends on several factors these include amongst others the time point of the drug intake, the dosing scheme, the formulation (immediate release,extended release), the time point of blood collection and the metabolic phenotype of the patient. Storage at -18ºC (90 Days),multiple freeze thaw should be avoided.
