Patients with persistent headaches, fever, and altered mental status.



How is the test performed?

A blood sample is collected, and an immunoassay, such as a latex agglutination or enzyme immunoassay (EIA), is used to detect cryptococcal antigens.


What do the results indicate?


Positive Result: Indicates the presence of Cryptococcus antigens, suggesting an active infection.
Negative Result: Suggests no detectable Cryptococcus infection, though additional testing may be necessary if clinical suspicion is high.
