CHLAMYDIA TRACHOMATIS IGM, SERUM

This test detects IgM antibodies against Chlamydia trachomatis, the bacterium responsible for chlamydia infections. IgM antibodies indicate a recent or active infection.

It is used to diagnose early-stage chlamydia infections, particularly in cases of suspected reproductive tract infections, conjunctivitis in newborns, or complications like pelvic inflammatory disease.

A blood sample is drawn and analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or immunofluorescence techniques to detect IgM antibodies.

A positive result suggests a recent or ongoing Chlamydia trachomatis infection. A negative result means there is no active infection, but other tests may be needed for confirmation.

Chlamydia infections are treated with antibiotics such as azithromycin or doxycycline. Early treatment is important to prevent complications like infertility or chronic pelvic pain.
