ADRENALIN, PLASMA
This test measures plasma adrenaline levels, which can help assess the body's stress response and diagnose adrenal disorders.
ADRENALIN, PLASMA Test in Mangaluru Overview
Interpretation of Adrenalin test?
A high level of adrenalin with corresponding signs and symptoms strongly indicates a presence of a tumor that produces catecholamines.
The Adrenalin test is a sensitive test and is affected by many factors including stress, smoking, certain medication and also intake of coffee.
No special preparations needed
- Adrenalin, Plasma
- Adrenalin measurements are indicated in autonomic neuropathy.
- Plasma adrenalin is increased in hypertension and cardiac failure.
- Plasma adrenalin levels are helpful in diagnosing pheochromocytoma (a rare, non-cancerous tumor that develops in the adrenal gland) in hemodialyzed patients
- The concentrations of adrenalin and its metabolites are of clinical interest especially in the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma (a type of cancer that forms in certain types of nerve tissue) and ganglioneuroma (Ganglioneuromas are rare tumors that most often start in autonomic nerve cells)
The test is ordered if a doctor suspects that a tumor is producing catecholamines. If a person is below 40 years and has certain specific symptoms like severe headaches, sweating and flushing, tremors, etc. These symptoms come in sudden bursts rather than it being consistent.
If you have a family history of pheochromocytoma, adrenalin test may be ordered for screening purposes. The test is also ordered if a neuroendocrine or adrenal tumor is detected on a scan.
Catecholamines are hormones that are formed by adrenal glands and include dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. The adrenalin test measures the level of epinephrine in the blood.
There are important points to note before going in for an Adrenalin test. Do not consume vitamin B, coffee, bananas, alpha-methydopa, MOA and COMT inhibitors as well as medication related to hypertension for at least 72 hours prior to the collection of the specimen.
Other names: Adrenaline test, Epinephrine, Catecholamines fractioned
Adrenalin (Epinephrine) is synthesized in the adrenal medulla, the sympathetic nervous system and the brain. It influences virtually all tissues and is involved with other hormonal and neuronal systems in the regulation of a wide variety of physiological processes.
Normal levels of adrenalin are below 125 pg/ml
