The TFE3 gene rearrangement test detects genetic changes in the TFE3 gene, which is associated with certain types of cancer, including Xp11 translocation renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS). The test helps confirm a diagnosis and guide treatment options.

This test is recommended for:

• Patients with suspected renal cell carcinoma, particularly in younger individuals.
• Those with tumors showing features suggestive of Xp11 translocation RCC or ASPS.
• Cases where histopathology suggests the need for confirmation of TFE3-related tumors.

A biopsy or tumor tissue sample is analyzed using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) or PCR to detect TFE3 gene rearrangements.

• Positive result: Indicates the presence of TFE3 gene rearrangement, confirming the diagnosis of translocation-associated RCC or ASPS.
• Negative result: Absence of TFE3 rearrangement suggests the tumor may be of a different origin.
