Frequently Asked Questions

This test detects IgG antibodies against the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 (HSV-2), which is commonly responsible for genital herpes.

It helps in diagnosing past exposure or infection with HSV-2. It is also used in prenatal screening and for patients with recurrent genital ulcers.

A blood sample is collected and tested for the presence of HSV-2 specific IgG antibodies using ELISA or similar assays.

A positive result indicates previous or current infection with HSV-2. A negative result usually rules out past infection, although very recent exposures may not be detected.

No special preparation is required for this test.
